FLLR 040 - Silvia's Parents - Baggage Boy 7 inch

This "tape filler" on the pictured tape surfaced a few years ago, and I am as clueless now (at least until being updated by the fabulous Fractured/Image) as I was then.  Information (and files) supplied by the legendary "bcingyou".

He notes: "I perhaps incorrectly transcribed notes on insert from trader's letter (which I can't locate) as filler being from "Sylvia's Parguts". This is obviously from vinyl as you can hear from surface noise before and after tracks but I can't find any match on Discogs. This sounds like a New Order influenced band from mid to late 80s or possibly a side project since keyboards sound like New Order's from that period. Any help with correction to the ridiculous band name is appreciated."

He subsequently added:  "Only thing I can find is that 'paraguitas' in spanish means tiny umbrella."

Suspect we'll never get to the bottom of this, but won't go down without swinging...

...if I hear back, I'll definitely update this blog with what I find out.

UPDATE:  And sure enough, I have been informed by the fabulous Fractured/Image that this is likely a UK group called "Silvia's Parents", who have a single 12" release, put out in 1989...so this 7" (otherwise undocumented) may in fact predate it.

Their band Discog page says:

Indie band from the UK
Simon Mitchell - Vocals, Guitar
Martyn Satterthwaite - Keyboards, backing vocals
Matt Donovan, Drums, Bass
Mark Beasley, Bass

Out of all of these, the only one which has a possibility of other output is the bassist Mark Beasley (2)

According to *ahem* artifical intelligence...

The name "Silvia's Parents" is a reference to the famous 1972 hit song "Sylvia's Mother" by the American band Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, which reached number two on the UK charts. The song tells the story of a man trying to reach his former love, Sylvia, but being blocked by her mother on the phone.

Both 7" tracks I upped to my YouTube channel, but the 12" tracks remain elusive, unless somebody wants to fork over a few bucks and get a copy.

Of course, the New Order soundcheck (filler itself) has been upped...

And 'FruitierThanThou' long ago upped the Durutti Column Brighton show SBD...which does have it properly identified as Sallis Benney Hall and *not* the Zap Club.

Lossless bonuses (the non-filler, if I daresay...) with the DC sourced from bcingyou's versus from norecordshopsleft's much more pristine-sounding "M1".

Durutti Column - 15 Dec 1984, which was also featured on the old ESWA blog.

New Order - 1985-10-26 - Sheffield University (soundcheck).  This has the pre-cleanup versions of the Sylvia's tracks.  I had to also remove a certain reference for being able to share this directly.

And finally, three DC tracks which *are* attributed to Zap Club, Brighton, same date....something somewhere is misidentified because it's a different performance of "Sketch For Summer".
